Greetings from the ESDR President

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

This past week, we experienced one of the year’s highlights – the ESDR Annual Meeting. I hope you enjoyed the event and returned home inspired, energized and full with new plans and ideas. On this occasion, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to our excellent scientific committee, the ESDR board, the ESDR office, our sponsors, and all participants for making this meeting so successful and memorable.

I am deeply honored to have been elected President of the ESDR for the coming year. This is both an honor and responsibility. On a personal note, ESDR has been a constant source of inspiration, driving my passion for advancing skin research since the first meeting I attended as a PhD student. In addition to the annual meetings, additional ESDR activities have been becoming more and more important. As an alumnus of the first Future Leaders Academy in 2011, I experienced myself how much the sense of community and mentorship means at an early stage of the career. Beyond mentoring and networking, the Young ESDR has recently emerged as a framework for “scientifically young” ESDR members to be involved in and lead ESDR activities. The ESDR Kitchen webinars have been proven popular and useful to keep us updated about the latest skin research, and connected across borders. Looking ahead, I feel responsibility for maintaining and further developing the ESDR as a flagship organization of academic dermatology, fostering a vibrant, inclusive academic atmosphere, to attract, retain and inspire skin researchers—both emerging and established—across Europe and beyond.

I wish you all a successful year ahead, and looking forward to seeing you in Antwerp next year!
Enikö Sonkoly,
ESDR President 2024-2025
