5 tips for maximising your ISID 2023 experience

1. AVOID GOLDEN WEEK

From 3 to 5 May 2023, millions of Japanese will be travelling nationally to spend public holidays with their families. Hotels and trains are expected to be at high capacity. If you wish to spend extra time in Japan, we recommend you discover Japan after ISID 2023.

2. PUBLIC TRANSPORT MADE EASY

Suica is a very convenient rechargeable travel card that can be used on all public transport in Tokyo (and many other cities in Japan) as well as for making small purchases at convenience stores, drink machines etc. You can purchase a Suica card at most train station ticket machines.

3. TERRIFIC TAXIS

A red light on a taxi means it is available. Green means occupied. Yes, it’s true!
Taxi doors will magically open and close for back seat passengers – no need to waste unnecessary effort!
Uber also operates in Tokyo.

4. ESSENTIAL APPS

Japan’s Official travel app is super useful for general information and especially up-to-date train schedules and routes. Citymapper works very well in Tokyo for getting around and Tokyo Art Beat gives great information on museum and gallery exhibitions in Tokyo and beyond.

5. BRING SOME CASH

While credit cards are widely accepted in larger stores, restaurants, taxis etc, ATMs are less available. We recommend you bring some cash with you. You can get good rates at Haneda and Narita airports after arrival.
Tipping is NOT CUSTOMARY in Japan!
