Fernando Larcher

Dr Fernando Larcher is Head of Epithelial Biomedicine Division at the Biomedical Innovation Department of the public research institute CIEMAT (http://bioinn.ciemat.es/) and Associate professor of Biochemistry at the Department of Bioengineering of University Carlos III of Madrid (UC3M).

Dr Larcher received his PhD degree from University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He trained as research fellow at the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center in US on experimental skin carcinogenesis and continued his postdoctoral career is Spain at CIEMAT.

Dr Larcher’s research interests focus on various aspects of skin regenerative medicine with particular attention in advanced therapies including cell and gene therapy for rare skin diseases. Dr Larcher team has contributed to establishing several tissue engineering-based humanized models of rare and prevalent skin disorders, amenable for preclinical therapeutic intervention. In recent years Dr Larcher’s team has dedicated efforts to develop clinically relevant genome editing strategies for the correction of genodermatoses.
