

Rachel Watson
Rachel Watson (BSc (Hons), PhD) is Professor of Cutaneous Science and Head of Division for Musculoskeletal & Dermatological Sciences within the School of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Biology, Medicine & Health at the University of Manchester (UK).
She received her BSc (Anatomy & Cell Biology) and PhD degrees from the University of Sheffield prior to joining the academic Centre for Dermatology Research in Manchester in 1994. As well as being the Academic Director of the postgraduate programmes in Skin Ageing & Aesthetic Medicine at this University (CPD, PGCert, PGDip, MSc), she sits on the editorial boards of 3 scientific journals and is Section Editor (Translational Research) of the British Journal of Dermatology. Rachel also sits on the UK-TREND committee of the British Association of Dermatologists.
Her research includes understanding the mechanisms which lead to skin ageing and the assessment of extracellular matrix repair, particularly by topical retinoids and holds a portfolio of research funding (research council, charity and industry). She has published extensively (>90 peer-reviewed original manuscripts) in a broad range of journals including the British Journal Dermatology, Journal of Investigative Dermatology, Aging Cell and Journal of Pathology.
