Leopold Eckhart

Dr. Leopold Eckhart is Associate Professor at the Medical University of Vienna. He received a PhD from the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences (Boku), Vienna, and an MBA from the Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien). He was Senior Manager in biopharmaceautical R&D, Lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences (IMC), Krems, Austria and Visiting Scientist at Yale University, New Haven, CT, USA. Since 2003 he has been leading a research team at the Department of Dermatology, Medical University of Vienna.

 

Dr. Eckhart’s research is focused on the function of the epidermis as a barrier to the environment and on the evolutionary genetics of the skin. His research group studies the differentiation of epidermal keratinocytes in healthy and diseased skin and aims to translate insights from basic research into new therapeutic approaches.
