Dr Katia Boniface is Professor in therapeutic innovation in the Immunology department at the University of Bordeaux. She obtained her PhD degree from the University of Poitiers, France. She performed her post-doctoral fellowship in the department of human Immunology at Schering-Plough Biopharma, Palo Alto, CA, USA. She is now leading the Immunodermatolgy research group in ImmunoConcEpT, CNRS UMR5164, University of Bordeaux.
Dr Boniface’s research has focused on the role of T cell subsets and their related cytokines in skin inflammatory autoimmune diseases and depigmentations, in particular psoriasis and vitiligo. Ongoing projects (from basic science to translational research) aim to decipher the role of resident memory T cells in the development, chronicity, and recurrence of lesions in vitiligo patients, and to better understand the crosstalk between immune and epidermal cells in the mechanisms leading to melanocyte loss. The ultimate goal is to identify new therapeutic targets.
