

Bernhard Homey
Bernhard Homey, MD is director of the Department of Dermatology at the University Hospital Düsseldorf, Germany. He studied Medicine at the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf. From 1998 to 2001, he took up a research fellowship focussing on chemokine biology at the DNAX Research Institute in Palo Alto, CA. After his board certification in Dermatology and his specialization in Allergology, he received a professorship for Dermatology in 2003 and was appointed as chairman of the Department of Dermatology at the University Hospital Düsseldorf in 2010. Since 2014, he is the spokesperson of the University Allergy Centre Düsseldorf. He received several honours including the Paul-Martini-Award, Oskar-Gans-Award, Günther-Wille-Award and Fujisawa Atopic Dermatitis Award.
Bernhard Homey has a long-standing research interest in all aspects of skin inflammation. He participates in national (DFG-FOR2690 PruSEARCH) and European (EU-MAARS, EU-BIOMAP) research networks. During recent years a focus has been directed towards the interplay of the microbiome with the host’s immune and nervous systems.
